An Unlikely Victory
In Judges 6-8, we read about the judge Gideon. He was appointed to be the leader of Israel at the time to help them overcome their cycle:
The Cycle in the Book of Judges:
Sin – The Israelites turn away from God and worship idols.
Oppression – God allows enemy nations to oppress them as a consequence of their disobedience.
Repentance – The Israelites cry out to God for deliverance.
Deliverance – God raises up a judge (leader) to rescue them.
Peace – The land experiences peace until the judge dies, and then the cycle starts over.
